Reflections on Writing For Children by Rebecca Loescher

Publications

My writing career includes:

A poem, Ode to Chigger, published in Lee Bennett Hopkins' anthology, Nasty Bugs, released in March 2012.

One poem under repeat contract with the state of Idaho for their achievement tests.

Regular publication of poems in children's science magazines, such as KNOW magazine and Appleseeds.

Successfuly, independently published Martha's Vineyard children's books, No Turn For Tern, 2010, and Over on the Vineyard, 2012, for which I market in spring, and do summer season signings and a variety of events on Martha's Vineyard.

Articles on the craft of writing for children published in writers' periodicals, i.e., the Institute for Children's Literature publications, KidMagWriters, Once Upon a Time, etc.

An article, Nature, Set to Rhythm, published in two parts, assigned by the Institute for Children's Literature, details writing poetry to teach children about nature.

I have written and illustrated teacher resource books featuring substantive and fun educational art projects for young children. These were tested in my private preschool and with elementary age children, which I have marketed when speaking at conferences.

Two signed book contracts. One was cancelled due to the publisher, Northword Books for Young Children, being sold and the buyer cancelling contracts for projects not yet completed. The second was cancelled when the publisher's seasoned, repeat author decided to use the same subject in a series she was doing for them.
